Bokeh- My First One

I found this tutorial on how to make your own bokeh.  Of course, I fell in love and had to try my own.  So I made one...with a few adjustments to fit me.

Like I used a square punch to make all of my inserts, and just laid it on top of my lens cover (I'm not sure if that's what you'd call it) to measure the actual hole just a little smaller.

And I added three little tabs for easy sliding in and out of the inserts. -- Forgive how
messy the tape job is...I wanted to be thorough.

I went a little nuts and made a lot of inserts.

But only after I made them all I realized that the designs were too big and didn't photograph well.

Back to the drawing board...

tons of little ones.
And then, this...

I LOVE IT. (I hope you do too!)

So go on,
make your own, have some fun.  I'll have to try some actual pictures using mine soon, but the pile of Christmas lights worked pretty well for practice.
P.S. I'm sorry that this was so long!

Happy Birthday, Sister!

My middlest sister's 21st is tomorrow.  Today the fam is going to see her to do dinner and take her out at midnight (Youngest sister gets to take a friend to hang out with when we go out).
This is old...but it kills me every time.
Happy birthday, sister!

What I Pieced Wednesday: 1

So I'm done with all the flowers for my hexagon mini-quilt (here). [But it's still in-progress, since the quilt isn't done yet] I thought I'd give you a little update.  Here they are.
I can't handle a messy stack...too OCD
Much better.
The back is a little messy...but once it's done you won't even be able to see the back...right?

It's the perfect project to work on when I just have a few minutes here and there or when we're just sitting around talking.  I can never just sit there anyway.

Quilting Skill Builder

As I've said before...I'm totally ADD when it comes to crafting...I love it all.  The newest thing I've wanted to try is quilting, which can be intimidating because of all the fabulous blogs out there with incredible women behind them.  But then I found this
You may have noticed the new button on my side bar...We Can Do It! Well, Leila at Sewn has put together a little quilting skill builder series that starts in June and goes through May.  Seriously, how cool is that?
If you've ever thought about starting to quilt, this seems like a great idea...come do it with me
(And since a post is never good without any pictures, here are some recent Pinterest loves of mine)

Finally...A Journal I Can Use

It's no secret that I love to write.  English was always my favorite subject, all that reading and writing...ahh, I'm in love.  I'm also a fan of lists.  But I've never really been all that good at keeping up on journals.
Until now...
I stumbled across Christie's blog...Grace is Overrated today. She has made some genius journaling pages that I can't wait to use!  You should go check them out.
Here's a preview:
Tell her I sent you and you love her hard work...then go print off her pages and journal away!

My First...Hexagons

Okay, so I'm addicted.  To making hexagons.  I've finished most of what I want to make for this project, so now I've just got to figure out a layout.  Here's the work so far.

And here are some layout options.
Mixed up.
Keeping the colors together.
Not straight lines.
Some sort of flower pattern?
But, I think I know what I'm going to do with them.  And it isn't any of these...you'll find out soon enough (:

If you're on a reader, head over to my blog and check out my new layout.  What do you think?

From here to here...

Then I handed them over and the kids at the school are going to finish them with buttons in the middle and pins on the back.

Hexagons...Am I Crazy?

I finally finished the flowers...203 of them (pictures to come).  So now I need another project that I can work on little by little. And I've been crushing on hexagons.  Plus, one of my goals is to make a quilt.
Since this is my first, I decided to make a mini-quilt.  A hexagon mini-quilt.  This way, I can slowly add to it and hand-piece as I have time.  Here's some inspiration for my madness

Wish me luck!

Well since Blogger is cool enough to delete everyone's last post, and I'm intelligent enough to back up my posts...guess that one is lost forever. Oh well, such is life.
EDIT: Post is back (:

Here's an update on this progress...

In these pictures there are 90...as I write this I have 120.  They need 300, but the kids were doing some at school as well.  They will look much better with the felt and pin backing and center button on them, but for now I'm just getting the time-consuming part done.
