Door Labels

Before I left for school I embroidered some letters to hang on our door.  A 'B' for me and a 'D' for my roommate. (This is the first year I'm living with someone different--I lived with my last roomie for all four years, it's going to be strange!)

I hung them up with some ribbon that drapes to the back and is taped on the top of the door.
I'd still like to get some simple wrapping paper to cover up the ugly boring color of the door, but for now at least it's got something!

The design was loosely based on this adorable pattern from Scissor Quirk

Unbelievable.

One of the apartment buildings on my campus burned down today.  Students, a staff member, and a few people from the community lost everything they own.  One girl lost her puppy.

As I stood out there with almost all the staff, the president of my school, and the people who lived there, it was overwhelming.  Fire trucks were blocking all the streets, smoke was covering the sky.

Tonight we have a Go Greek event, which seems trivial now.  But we're taking donations for all who lived there.  School supplies, clothing, soap, bedding, towels etc.

Everyone (with exception of pets) got out alive, thank God for that.

Please pray for those who just lost everything.  Pray that we'll get a lot of donations for them.  If you don't pray, send good thoughts, do whatever it is you do.

Photography Class

Every semester I've had to take 18 (or even 19) credits. [18 is the total they'll allow you for my school, full time is 12] So I've been jam-packed with all these classes for my double-major with a minor.  Meaning, unfortunately, I have never had the chance to take a class simply just to take it.  Luckily, I go to a liberal arts school, so we've been required to take a whole slew of different classes...including an art class (art can be dance, theater, or anything from our art department).
I have finally signed up for mine in my last semester and I'm taking photography.  I took a film photography class in high school where we did darkroom work and everything, but this is digital.  And I am really excited about it.
I can't promise I'll be any good, but I will share some of my images with you...Finally, a class where I'm excited about the homework. Nerd, much?

Interesting Stat & Some Organization

My mom happened to have a stack of magazines that she let me have so I could start my inspiration book.  Lots of good stuff in these (:

My sister is at camp this week.  While momma and I were out, we bought her a new, bigger, container for her bracelet string. I happen to love to organize things (nerd alert) so I transferred it for her.
I doubt it will stay like this for much longer, but it's nice to look at.

And now for the interesting stat.  I happen to get Time magazine.  When I flipped it open and was looking at a chart of things Americans are spending more money on, guess what I found...
See that on the right of the middle?  We're spending 1% more on sewing items.  That may not seem like a lot, but it was enough to get mentioned.  Horray for handmade!

Hope your week is going well (:

What I Pieced Wednesday: 10

As you read this I'm moving all of my stuff to school and packing it into my room for the 5th and final year (WOO FINALLY!) I've got meetings all this week, but I'll try to put in a post or two (:

Another week of the Skill Builder!  This week-Virginia Star.

I really had a bit of a pain with this one because apparently some of my cutting wasn't so hot.  But, it all worked out in the end.

I've also done a little accessory-sewing lately.  Mostly just some playing around.  Like this ruffle bracelet.

Friendship Bracelet Swap - Sent

I haven't posted this yet, as I wanted to make sure all of my partners received their bracelets, and as my Australian partner let me know she got hers, I'm thinking they all have.
If you remember, I said I was participating in this lovely swap put on by Amanda from The Modern Marigold and Jenn from Ruffled Sunshine.  Here is what I made for my lovely swap partners.

After I made them, I found a little poem, formatted it, printed it on three different colors to match the bracelets, and wrote a note to each of them.

My partners were wonderful.
The sweet 12 year old Cidney.
Jayme from The Simple Sweet Life.  A pre-med student and blogger who can't wait to change lives (awesome).
Kylie from My Addiction to Quilting.  A quilting Aussie with some wonderful projects.

Looking through my string, I have so many color combinations in mind (: (and if anyone wants a tutorial, just let me know...I'd be happy for any excuse to make more!)
