What I Pieced Wednesday: 5

The second block for the We Can Do It quilt-along.

After seam ripping all of my first pieces due to lack of correct seam measurement, here is my Value 9 Patch.

Now, you may think, "that looks great!" (I would...just kidding) But, if you look closer...you'll notice that apparently one of my blocks was being silly, and didn't feel like lining up properly.

Oh well, even with my OCD, I wasn't about to rip any more seams for this block. (plus, both are white fabrics, so I'm hoping once it's all put together you won't even notice)

Plus, I learned/practiced chain-piecing.  Great time-saver, seriously.

Muse Monday: 4

I hope you're all loving these Muse Mondays as much as I am. Sometimes it's nice to have some of my favorites in one place.

Also new this week...check out my "follow me on Pinterest" button, right above my "About Me."  Seriously, follow me!  I'd love to follow you back!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

There are two little girls who I've been watching since they were 6mo and 2yrs old...they're now 5 and 7yrs old!  I recently got the chance to stay with them for a weekend and again this week, and it was a blast!  They are two of the funniest girls I know.

When I got them from their aunt, they were covered in tats, and couldn't stop drawing on themselves and me! (It was a stamp and marker tattoo set they had)

When we were at McDonald's there was one point where we were all cracking up, and they said to me, "You're a fun mom!" (Let's hope when I have kids they think the same (: )

We went to Applebee's one night, and the 5yr old held up a spoonful of melted ice cream and said, "Look! When ice cream melts, it turns into milk!" (If only that were true!)

When I put on my makeup in the morning, they told me that I finally looked like "real Barbara" and when I didn't have it on that I looked like "fake Barbara."

And of course, we played a lot of school, the 7yr old just finished first grade, and she made a pretty awesome schedule for our day.
As a teacher-ed major, all the classrooms I've been in have a schedule posted (great idea, by the way) and it's interesting to see how well the kids actually pay attention to it!

Here's one of my favorite games to play while waiting for food in a restaurant.  Tic-Tac-Toe, but use forks/knives/spoons as the grid, and different sugars as your markers...so easy, all the materials are there!
(I don't recommended using knives unless you feel your children will be safe enough around them)

Have you heard anything funny from a young one lately?

What I Pieced Wednesday: 4

As you may know, I joined a quilt along to learn some basic skills.  With the help of this lovely little book, I began.

So without further ado, let me introduce you to my very first quilt block ever.

I'm pretty proud of it.  And I only had to rip out stitches once (if you look closely, you can see them on the little white square).

And, of course, I'm totally addicted already! (As in...I may need to go buy other fabric so I can start on a different quilt...one block a week is making me go crazy! Though I'm sure it'll be great when school is back in and I'm super busy)

I've had fabric cut up for a few quick projects for a while, and I finally got around to them.

Some rosettes and pompoms...who knows what for yet.

More poms.  Definitely fall colors.

And these...I love the teal and pink together.  I've gotta figure out a way to put them with each other.

What's your favorite quick project?

We Can Do It!

As I posted about here, I am taking a leap and joining the Quilting Skill Builder hosted by Leila of Sewn.

I decided to do red-white-and-blue fabrics.  I haven't picked them all out yet, but I'll get more as we go on.

Can't wait to get started on the first block!

Absence

Boyfriend was home for a few days since his semester finally ended.  Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures.  So I'll shamelessly put up one from two summers ago.
Now I'm off to start catching up on all the posts in GoogleReader.  Then more crafting (:

P.S. I'm halfway done with my hexagon quilt, but I'm keeping it under wraps till it's finished.  Hopefully I can share soon!

A Purse for a Sister

A few months ago, I was at Hobby Lobby with the fam, and the youngest sister saw some fabric she liked and asked me to make a purse for her.
I haven't been able to get super-great pictures, but here it is!
She hates to be like anyone else and is a fan of mismatched things, so I made the pocket crooked (hard for a perfectionist like me).

And she can fit everything she needs to in it.

It's not perfect, but I didn't use a pattern, and T loves it, so I guess it's a win!
